Scissorella: The Paper Princess
I’m delighted to say that Scissorella: The Paper Princess is out now, published by Andersen Press!
Scissorella is a reimagining of the classic fairy tale, Cinderella, inspired by the life and work of the German animator, Lotte Reiniger. When I first read the beautifully inventive text by author Clare Helen Welsh, I was over the moon; Lotte is one of my all time illustration heroes. Her work has had me inspired and obsessed ever since I discovered The Adventures of Prince Achmed and her fairy tale animations a few years ago.
Clare’s story takes details from Lotte’s life and inventively weaves them into the much loved tale of Cinderella.
I was commissioned by the wonderful Sue Buswell at Andersen Press, and worked closely with the hugely talented Rebecca Garrill on the design. It was a new challenge for me to work with paper textures and a lot more colour than usual!
The picture book has a rather exciting laser cut reveal, which I’ll share more of soon…
I’m so thrilled that Scissorella is out in the world!
